New York, NY (PRWEB) February 15, 2006 -- SBR Multisports' Elite team had a breakthrough year in 2005; over twenty podium finishes, four of its eight members were finishers of the 2005 Hawaii Ironman World Championship and two members were named All American for the second consecutive year. The New York City-based triathlon retailer is entering its third year with its sponsored triathlon team. For 2006, SBR President, Christophe Vandaele, expanded the triathlon team to encompass a broader group of athletes, ranging from beginner to elite level competitors. This year SBR will be represented by a team of 18 athletes.
The 2006 team members are Dianna Ineman, Jenny Fletcher, Mimi Boyle, Lidia Rekas, Jason Rita, Stefan Kusurelis, Brian Maiolo, Cliff Scherb, Helene Roth, Sarah Tombaugh, Sandra Bartolotta, Diane Calderon, Paul Bashforth, Israel Rodriguez, Brad Gansberg, Mike Dolan, Greg Stewart and Mark Lucas. The team's race season starts February 26th at the IM Malaysia where Lidia Rekas and Cliff Scherb will compete for qualifying slots for the Hawaii World Championship. The team race schedule includes more than seventy events worldwide, including many in the northeast region.
SBR Multisports' triathlon team has been central to the company's marketing strategy and has proven to be an invaluable vehicle in furthering SBR's mission: to build the sport of triathlon through community involvement. "I want to provide triathletes the opportunity to flourish in a team environment, train and race with the outstanding products and gear we sell at SBR and share their passion and knowledge of triathlon with others, including children," explains Vandaele. The SBR team will be working with the Children's Blood Foundation, an organization that specializes in clinical research and treatment of children suffering from cancers and blood disorders, to provide encouragement and share the power of triathlon with a younger generation. By broadening the scope of triathlete ambassadorship, SBR hopes to increase brand recognition of SBR and its co-sponsoring vendors worldwide. At the local level, the SBR team members provide an important presence at store events and are a mainstay in the triathlon community.
