Is there one word that describes the joy you receive from your sport?
Euphoria!

How did you become interested in your sport?
My interest in the sport started when NBC started showing the Ironman back in the 80's. At the time I thought that it was so amazing that a person could do all that in one day. It seemed superhuman.

What other hobbies do you enjoy?
Right now my baby, Sydney is my Hobby. On the rare occasions that I have any extra time, I like to play Poker, as well as any physical activity that can be done outside.

What's your favorite meal to eat before and after a big race?
Pre race: it is always a large bowl of whole grain cereal with skim milk.
After the race: I usually have a sesame bagel toasted with onion, lox, and lots of cream cheese.

Do you have a favorite song, favorite music group, or is there music you like to train to, or is there a certain song that plays in your head when you race or ride?
I don't generally listen to music when I train. What plays in my head when I am pushing myself is one question; "am I giving my all?"

Do you have a personal motto?
If you can let go of your fears you will find that anything is possible..

The most memorable and meaningful race you've been in and why?
With out doubt, my most meaningful race was the 2005 Ford New York City Olympic Triathlon. This was the race that I set as my goal when I decided to start doing Triathlons. At the time I decided to do it I was terribly out of shape (279 lbs, and had never exercised in my adult life). I was searching the internet, and came across the event. I was tired of being so out of shape, as well as afraid of where my poor state of health would lead to later in life. I made a snap decision to do this event a year later. That year of preparation changed my life forever. By the time of the race, I had lost almost 60 lbs, and I felt better than I ever dreamed that I could. The actual race was a total victory lap for me. I had a great time doing something that I could barely imagine doing just a year earlier. The most important reason that this was my most meaningful race was because it taught me that anything is possible. This has carried over to the rest of my life. I find myself taking on challenges that I would have never considered in the past. I will be a triathlete for the rest of my life. This year I am doing my first half Ironmans, and I plan to do my first full Ironman in 2007. Anything is possible.
